The Sheffield Branch of the Association of Secretaries was founded in 1983 to bring together secretaries on a social and cultural basis with the aim of raising funds for local charities.

Most branches are run by a Committee and Sheffield is no exception. We have a President, Vice-President and six other very lively Committee Members who keep us in good order!  A new President and Vice-President are elected bi-annually but the other Committee Members may remain in office for as long as they wish.

On the third Monday of every month the Members of our Branch meet not only socially and to discuss essential Branch business matters but also to be entertained to a wide-ranging variety of fascinating talks and demonstrations by visiting speakers on topics such as: Access of Women into Parliament, Personal Safety for Women, History of Fans, Work of the Probation Service, The Abdication, etc.

On the rare occasion when there is no speaker we usually take advantage of the opportunity to raise extra funds for our Charity by holding (say) a "silent auction" or a "bring and buy" table-top sale, etc. Some Members also raise funds in their own time, for example by producing cakes and other items for sale at their workplace or in their local areas.

The Sheffield Branch also has a very active programme of visits and outings - eg Fashion Shows, BBC Good Food & Wine Show, Seaside Outings, Renishaw Hall, Salmon & Strawberry Evenings, Lancôme Makeup Demonstrations, etc.

Annually in October the Association of Secretaries holds an Annual Convention (from Friday to Sunday) which is open to Members from all Branches.

The Sheffield Branch is a very friendly group of people and we are always looking to expand our membership. We welcome not only PAs and Secretaries (of course) but also Administrators and Senior Clerical Assistants, and offer "trial visits" to anyone wishing to come and check us out!
